Standard Email to Stations
Here is the standard text that I am sending to radio stations that once banned The Beatles:
Greetings, people of [station call letters]! I am writing to you and your station as a fan of one of the greatest musical groups of all time, The Beatles.
You may not be aware of this, but your station was one of the many that banned The Beatles from airplay in August 1966 after John Lennon was reported to have made some comments about his band being more popular than Jesus.
I understand that the staff is doubtless different now at your station than it was 55 years ago, the call letters are no longer [former call letters] (as they were in 1966), and that the ownership may have changed since then.
But it was still over your airwaves that The Beatles were banned.
I am basing this statement on news coverage at the time. [newspaper quote and citation]
With this in mind, and given the incomparable talent and undeniable staying power of The Beatles, I am asking if you would consider making an apology to The Beatles in honor of their millions of fans -- no doubt many among your own listeners!
I maintain a website with a list of all radio stations for which there is evidence of a 1966 Beatles ban. I will update this list with what response, if any, I receive.
I thank you in advance for your consideration of this request and to your reply.
Sincerely,
Beatle Mike
