KFIF banned The Beatles!
Evidence of the Ban:
According to the Arizona Republic on August 5, 1966, "KFIF in Tucson, threatened with bombing and picketing if it played Beatle records, decided to poll its listeners. A station official said 75 per cent of those interviewed had favored the ban, so KFIF complied."
The Tucson Daily Citizen reported on August 5, 1966 that "A local radio station which isn't playing Beatle records had pickets last night and a swamped switchboard today as the furor over John Lennon's statement raged on. While votes came in 10 to 1 in favor of playing Beatle records yesterday, there is a slight majority today opposed to hearing more of the mop-tops' music, according to Dave Button, manager of the picketed station. Button said the station had receieved a bomb threat from a man who said he would give the station three days to stop playing Beatle music or he would 'mail you a bomb.' Button relayed the information to police. The station will not play Beatle records until the poll is over, Button said."
Notes:
KFIF called itself "Boss Radio" and played top 40 music over a 50,000-watt signal but only sunrise to sundown.
