WBBB banned The Beatles!

Evidence of the Ban:

On August 3, 1966, The Daily Times-News reported, "E.Z. Jones, manager of Radio Station WBBB, said that, as of today, no more Beatles records will be played by the station."

The Daily Times-News mentioned in an editorial on August 5, 1966, "The movement [to ban The Beatles] started in Alabama, and E.Z. Jones of WBBB and Jack Starnes of WBAG here were among the first to join." The editorial concluded: "So far as many airwaves are concerned, the Beatles have had it. That's good. Now, let's see if we can make real haircuts popular again."

Notes:

At least some of the music programming on WBBB was country music. Every Monday at 6:45 PM, WBBB broadcast "The Birch Report," a 15-minute weekly syndicated show produced by the John Birch Society. The station also carried a 5-minute program "Viewpoint" featuring Jesse Helms as well as the syndicated "The Joe Pyne Show."
