Evidence of the Ban:
The Anniston Star in Alabama reported on August 4, 1966, that "Radio Station WEZQ of Winfield, Ala.; WMSL of Decatur, Ala.; WCRL of Oneonta, Ala., and WAGC of Centre, Ala., said they are joining the Birmingham disc jockey's anti-Beatle campaign.... WEZQ News Director Paul Slatton said that after the station announced the Beatle ban 300 telephone calls were received within a two-hour period. 'All but 20 were in support of the ban,' Slatton said. The station has a rock 'n' roll show between 2:30 and 6 p.m. 'We've already collected a big box of Beatle stuff,' Slatton said. 'We'll have a bonfire with it later.' "
