WTYC banned and possibly burned The Beatles!

Evidence of the Ban:

According to The Evening Herald in Rock Hill, SC, on August 4, 1966, "The answer in Rock Hill: 'God will be here from now on. Ban the Beatles.' That was the typical quote from protesting teenagers who called WTYC in a half-hour telephone poll yesterday afternoon. The poll results— 175 voted to ban their records. Ten were opposed. As a result of the poll, WTYC has banned the Beatles from its programs. Saturday at 2 p.m. the station will publicly destroy all its records by the Beatles in the station parking lot. Said WTYC manager Ted Burwell, 'We feel that if the Beatles feel this way about religion, they are a bad influence on the American public.'... Other comments from the WTYC poll were: 'Christianity will continue forever. The Beatles must go.' 'If it were not for God, the Beatles wouldn't be here in the first place.'"

The Asheville Citizen on August 4, 1966 reported, "Bob Latham of WTYC, Rock Hill, S.C., said his station conducted a 30-minute poll among listeners and received 187 telephone calls in response to the announcement the station was banning Beatle records. 'Of these,' said Latham, '177 supported the ban and 10 wanted the records continued.' "
