On August 5, 1966, the Akron Beacon Journal reported, "Another Ohio station, WHOT in Youngstown banned Beatles records today." Also on August 5, Defiance, OH's Crescent-News wrote, "WHOT, a 24-hour station announced that it would stop playing records recorded by the British rock and roll group until Lennon clarifies his remarks. 'This suspension will remain in effect until there is a satisfactory explanation for the statement attributed to Lennon in a recent magazine article,' said Program Director Dick Thompson."
