The Wellsville Daily Reporter on August 8, 1966 wrote, "Wellsville Radio Station WLSV has banned musical selections by the Beatles until further notice. James Armstrong, general manager of the commercial station, issued the following statement: 'WLSV has received many inquiries from the listening public concerning a statement made by a member of the English musical group, the Beatles, "that Christianity will vanish and shrink and that the group is more popular than Jesus." After considerable thought the management of WSLV has decided to discontinue airing musical selections by the Beatles until further notice.' Mrs. Robert (Julie) Harris, in charge of the station's news, said today that many person of the station's listening area has called in or written brief notes condemning the English group for the statement made by member John Lennon in an interview in a teenage publication."
