Location: Hot Springs, SD

KOBH banned The Beatles!

Evidence of the Ban:

According to the Associated Press (as printed in The Daily Plainsman of Huron, SD, on August 5, 1966), "Records of the Beatles which a radio station here has in its library are going to be used as clay pigeons in a trapshoot at which winners will be awarded rings of baloney. Dell Brandt of station KOBH said today the station's offer of all of its Beatle records had been accepted by the Hot Springs Gun Club and will be used at the club's shoot Aug. 18. Brandt said the station has at least 25 records of the British group. The records will be tossed up by hand as targets. 'There'll be winners in each of several divisions and winner will get a piece of baloney,' Brandt said. 'We've known even before the controversy over the Beatles that it would be okay for us to do something like this with their records,' Brandt said."

Notes:

The station call letters were chosen to suggest "Call of the Black Hills." There is no indication that anyone named "Rocky" ever worked at the station, whether human or raccoon.
