KTEO banned The Beatles!

Evidence of the Ban:

The Associated Press (as printed in the Corpus Christi Times on August 4, 1966) reported, "'We don't care if they come out with 10,000 apologies—we'll not play the Beatles again,' said Russ Johnston, program director of KTEO in San Angelo, Texas."

In a later update, the AP (as printed in The Victoria Advocate on August 16, 1966) relayed, "'We have received from 950 to 1,000 letters,' said Art Sinclair, manager of KTEO in San Angelo, from as far away as Nova Scotia and Puerto Rico, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and the South.' Sinclair said the letters were 3 to 1 in favor of the ban, but the local response was even higher in support of the ban. Sinclair said the station has now changed to an all-country music format."

While announcing their ban of The Beatles, KTEO knew they weren't going to be playing the band for much longer anyway.

On August 5, 1966, it was announced that multiple staff members had resigned in the face of a change to "town & country" music. The station flipped to the new format "under new management" on August 14, 1966, at 1 PM.

Tom  Mullens, KTEO station manager told the San Angelo Standard-Times on August 12, 1966, "The Beatle ban did not really have anything to do with the changing of our format. We had been discussing it for some time. As for the old Beatle and popular records, they will probably be used for remote broadcasts and things of that nature."

Meanwhile, in ad copy promoting the new format, KTEO touted morning DJ Johnny Thurman, the "Flop-Eared Mule," who shared his "homespun palaver." Other DJs included "Shotgun" Barton.
