WMSL banned and burned The Beatles!
Evidence of the Ban:
Alabama's Anniston Star newspaper reported on August 4, 1966: "Radio Station WEZQ of Winfield, Ala.; WMSL of Decatur, Ala.; WCRL of Oneonta, Ala., and WAGC of Centre, Ala., said they are joining the Birmingham disc jockey's anti-Beatle campaign.... Jerry Binkley, WMSL news director, said that his station started broadcasting an announcement of the ban at 6 p.m. Tuesday. 'Since then we have received around 300 phone calls and every single one of has been behind us 100 per cent.' Binkley said the station is maintaining a box to keep the spurned Beatle material for a bonfire 'probably the same time as WAQY has theirs.'"
