WAYX burned and possibly banned The Beatles!
Evidence of the Ban:
United Press International (as reported in the Palm Beach Post on August 6, 1966) stated, "Radio station WAYX announced Friday it would hold a 'Beatle burning' at 8 p.m. Monday and invited the public to join in. Program director 'Happy' Howard Williamson and news director Butch Guest said the station would burn all its Beatle records. They said, 'Everybody's behind us so far except for one call, and that was some kid.' "
(While evidence specifically of a ban by WAYX has not yet been found, it is unlikely that a radio station holding a bonfire and burning all of their records by the group had not banned The Beatles.)
Notes:
In 1966, WAYX carried Atlanta Braves baseball, the Atlanta 500 car racing event, and Waycross High School Bulldogs football.
