KFNV

Station Information

Call Letters: KFNV

Frequency: 1600 AM

Location: Ferriday, LA

KFNV banned and burned The Beatles!

Evidence of the Ban:

The Town Talk in Alexandria, LA, on August 7, 1966 stated that, "In Oak Grove, La., 450 teenagers, once dedicated Beatle fans and now shaken critics, dumped Beatle records into a bonfire held on the courthouse square Saturday night. Radio station KFNV, Ferriday, said Sunday it would stop playing records by the Beatles because of the anti-Christianity statement."

Notes:

Interestingly, KFNV broadcast a series of talks by the Reverend B.N. Nichols of the Hill Memorial Baptist Church during July 1966 with the topic "America's No. 1 enemy—how the enemy begins, how it works, and how it destroys nations, homes and individuals." It's unknown the contents of these talks, and these broadcasts predate John Lennon's quotes in Datebook. Clearly, though, the talks resonate quite closely with some of the subsequent controversy.
