WYCL banned The Beatles!
Evidence of the Ban:
The Associated Press (as printed in the The Durham Morning Herald on August 4, 1966) reported, "Manager Curtis Sigmon of WYCL, York, S.C., broadcast this statement: 'In a free society it is the right of every citizen to express himself, privately and publicly. But with this right there is a responsibility. The rights of one person should not be sacrificed for those of another, nor should any person of either small of great prominence forget the influence his actions have on another. A member of a currently popular singing group has violated every degree of responsibility, both real and implied, toward those who may have held him in any degree of adulation. Therefore, WYCL refuses to permit its facilities to be used by a group which so thoughtlessly and sacrilegiously have violated a public trust. The latest song by the Beatles, written in part by John Lennon, is destroyed.'"
